New module provides highest level of WebNative security available
WALTHAM, MA —April 26, 2005 — NAPC (www.napc.com) today announced the release of NativeSecurity, a WebNative add-on for enterprises that require the most stringent level of security available.

Already in use at some of the largest banks, pharmaceutical firms and consumer products companies in the world, NativeSecurity offers a host of benefits critical to IT departments, including superior password protection and compliance with rigorous governmental standards.

Rob Pelmas, Chief Technology Officer at NAPC, said, "There is nothing built into WebNative to enforce good password behavior, such as changing passwords at regular intervals or making them difficult to guess. NativeSecurity enforces those things. It lets IT sleep at night knowing passwords aren’t vulnerable. Basically, the IT department no longer has to worry about users being lax."
By itself, NativeSecurity meets the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s requirements for a secure site. With the addition of SSL encryption, it meets NIST’s highest standard for protection. In addition, NativeSecurity complies with Sarbanes-Oxley, providing peace of mind for any public company concerned with accountability if data is ever compromised over the Web.

With Native Security, companies can not only meet their own corporate mandates for secure Web traffic with password rules, but also ensure that their business partners meet the same high standard. As a result, they can better protect confidential photos, trade secrets and other materials.

NativeSecurity is able to provide this higher level of security by imposing stricter requirements for passwords – including an 8-character minimum and use of both numbers and upper/lowercase letters. Passwords and other variables are also highly customizable. “NativeSecurity offers tuneable rules so you can set your own policies,” Pelmas said. For example, companies can make it so a user can’t reuse a password until it’s been changed X number of times. They can also decide the length of time before a password or session expires, the number of login attempts before a user is locked out, and more.

Another benefit of NativeSecurity is the seamless user experience it provides. Instead of being confronted with WebNative’s authentication pop-up, users can enter their usernames and passwords into an attractive Web page that integrates with the rest of their site. NAPC provides default templates to replace the standard WebNative login screen.

Once clients choose the security rules they want, NAPC takes care of all the technical underpinnings. Clients are handed a fully customized, working solution. NativeSecurity can be implemented on as broad or as limited a basis as the client wants. It can be enabled/disabled per location, virtual host or server, and settings can be adjusted for each virtual host. NativeSecurity also gives clients the option of enabling/disabling anonymous access and having different anonymous users per virtual host. Users can still be maintained using the standard NativeAdmin interface.
